Peter and Suzanne Hume, with typical Australian dry humour chose "Hume's Hovell Fine Bed and Breakfast" as a play on words from the names of the early Australian explorers Hume and Hovell. Peter is descended from the family of Hamilton Hume who along with William Hovell explored the first overland route from Sydney to Melbourne in 1824.
